A Fun Week

What a busy but fun week. We attended the Annual Scouts and Guides Trivia Quiz.

The theme was the Olympics and Husband Deluxe was the MC.

Fuzzy Wuzzy won 'Player of the Week' for his amazing soccer skills on field.

He played goalie and didn't let anything get past him.

What a star!
Squealy has also been enjoying soccer but invariably he ends up absolutely shattered and freezing after his early morning game.

Poor little guy just crashes out wherever he can!

Kiama Family Holiday #2

The dinosaur show at the Illwarra Fly by Erth was awesome. A show with huge puppets and audience participation. Our family got lots of audience participation. Here are some photos. Excuse the crappy photos, light levels were low!

String Bean patting one of the baby dinosaurs at the start of the show.
Squealy had a giant dragon fly land on his hand (I was too slow with the camera).

Husband Deluxe had to stand up and dance :)

Shep (the presenter) selected Fuzzy Wuzzy because he was 'brave'. He didn't even have to talk him into it, he was all over it.

He did look pretty confident to begin with.

Triumphant at the end of the head biting!

Kiama Family Holiday #1

This is the view from our cabin while staying at Kiama, just a short walk straight onto the beach!

Charny Carny

Yesterday the family and I attended the Charny Carny. It is a fundraiser for my school, the local catholic school and for Guides and Scouts! Everywhere I went I either bumped into kids/parents from school and girls from Guides.

String Bean and I did a stint on the ice cream van. Performing community service is a big part of Guides and String Bean enjoyed collecting the ice creams out of the fridge.

The kids loved getting up close and personal with the reptiles. They got to pet lizards, turtles, a baby crocodile and a snake too.

Soccer Carnival

String Bean played 4 soccer games today at the annual Catholic Schools Soccer Carnival. 1300 players from the local and surrounding districts converged on the Uni of Canberra playing fields for the day.

Given the rainy weather the night before I wasn't sure it would go ahead but we ended up with beautiful sunny weather today.

Our school was the hosting school so alot of organisational effort went into making the carnival the huge success it ended up being. You get this opportunity once in 21 years!

String Bean and her team: Team Awesome! Delia scored 1 goal and the manager said she is a natural soccer player!

Towards the end of the day during game play String heard her name being called... she ended up winning the raffle and scored a pink Nikon Coolpix camera and memory card! A lovely end to a perfect day :)

Slushie's and Hot Chips.

Not overly multi-cultural but that's what our girls wanted to eat. We went to the multi-cultural festival on Saturday night with friends and enjoyed ourselves with half of Canberra. So packed it wasn't funny!

The festival has gone from strength and is just huge now compared to how little it was when I went as a child. Nice to see the festival evolving over time.

First Day

Schools started off well this year. The first year when all 3 are at the same school. Oh the joy that brings! All three are happy with their respective teachers and we have quickly settled into the 'at school' routine.

During the holidays Squealy received a letter from his teacher. It was so cute, as it asked him to send her a picture. This is what he drew. Squealy is on the right. His teacher is actually blond :) Loving the smiles!

Coast Trip #4

One of many Lizards Squealy found in the scrubby bush land surrounding 'One Walk For All'.

While down the coast we took the 'One Walk For All' on the northern headland reserve at Ulladullah. There are two tracks to take and they are filled with the art works of local artist: Noel Butler.

Beautiful carvings tell the history of Ulladullah from an indigenous perspective. There are some stunning views back towards Ulladullah harbour and town centre on the southern trail. The northern trail has beautiful views of our fave swimming spot Bogey Hole and Mollymook.

Squealy loved looking for lizards along the trails. He also found lots of local birds.

Coast Trip #3

Left: Squealy getting ready to catch some waves @Wairo Beach, Lake Tabourie. Crampton Island in the background.

Right: Fuzzy running out of the surf. When did this boy start looking like a teenager?

While down the coast we went to see the Lennon Bros Circus. Wow what a fun filled evening. We weren't allowed to photograph anything during the show, so I only have a few pictures of the kids waiting to go into the big top. The kids just loved it. Esp. the part of the show where a monkey was riding a horse around. So funny. The kids got to have a pony ride at half time which they loved...and my stoopid camera decided to crap itself right at that point so the photos are terrible :(

Hanging out with friends: at Ulladullah exercise park at Mollymook beach.

Left: Squealy spent alot of time trying to either catch bugs or lizards :)

Right: Squealy rock climbing at the Mollymook Bogey Hole.

Our Fave spot is the Bogey Hole at Mollymook, which we found accidently during last years coast trip :)

The photo posted is of the Bogey Hole at low tide.
Husband Deluxe, our friends and the kids are splashing around having a ball.

One of Mollymook best natural features is the 'Bogey Hole', a large circular rock pool located on Mollymook Headland.
The Bogey Hole is a tidal pool and is very shallow at low tide. Its protective ring of rocks ensures a safe and fun environment for children and adults of all ages. Hours of entertainment can also be enjoyed whilst exploring its surrounding rock platform.
For those who can swim, and only during high tide, try launching from popular Dive Rock.
The safe shallow waters of the Bogey Hole make it an ideal location for families with young children and for those people who prefer a calm spot for a dip. It also offers safe snorkeling and is a great spot for a picnic day out.
You can easily walk around the headland from the southern end of Mollymook Beach to the Bogey Hole and Collers Beach or drive to its car park via Riversdale Avenue across Mollymook's Beachside Golf Course.

Coast Trip #1

We've just returned home from a week away at our friends house down the coast. We usually spend a week there during the January school holidays.

String Bean: sitting pretty at Pebbly Beach.

While at Pebbly Beach we were lucky to see a huge goanna walking along, and quite quickly too I might add, straight into a bush. As soon as his head was covered by a big bush, he flopped in the sun. Squealy just about wet himself!

Sooty Oystereaters: rare birds. Spotted two nesting pairs on the rocks at Pebbly Beach.

New Pergola #2

Here is a photo of our completed pergola from our neighbours Darren and Sue's place. Have spent more time out on the deck in the last 2 days than I have in over a year!

We also took the kids out for a walk tonight and I just happened to have my camera on me when they decided to jump up on our estates sign. Looks like another electrical storm is blowing in as there was alot of lightening in the clouds behind our place.

Christmas Photos

Here is our family Christmas photo for the year.

The kids enjoyed telling Santa what they'd like delivered. Squealy just started singing!

Santa was really sweet to the kids... although by 3pm he must have been past it!

'Braided Scraps' Quilt #2

An update on my most gorgeous quilt which is using Moda fabric Blush range. This braided quilt is just stunning. I am just so pleased with how it is coming along.

I have put all four braids together and trimmed them to the same size.

I've also added the sashing along all the sides and top and bottom.

The next step is to order in some more fabric for the binding and to finish off a extra patch worked sashing. This will make the quilt a full queen size.

It was quite tricky to trim the braids as they kept getting all wonky. I suspect it is something to do with the bias of the fabric. So you can see where I used a chalk pencil, to pencil in the centre line of each braid. Was worried I'd cut them all wrong!

I've also added a photo of my beautiful girl. She has been busy crafting too. She received heaps of crafty things for her birthday recently and she has been slowly working through them all.
